PatentLean Fat Burner Review & Information: 7-Keto For Weightloss?
 PatentLean is a relatively easy fat burner to review, as it contains only one ingredient—3-Acetyl-7-Oxo-Dehydroepiandrosterone, or 7-Keto for short.
7-keto is a metabolite of DHEA that exhibits no apparent side effects.
Why is this important? Well, DHEA is a steroid hormone that occurs naturally in the body and is produced in the adrenal glands. And 7-keto does not convert into to testosterone or estrogen, and has no effect
on the sex hormones.
That's a good thing.
What's promising about this ingredient is its positive effect on thyroid hormone levels in obese people—again, without any adverse effects of any kind (see J Nutr Biochem. 2007 Sep;18(9):629-34. Epub 2007 Apr 5, Current Therapeutics, (7):435-442 2000).
The latter study concluded...
"The results of the study suggest that 7-oxo-DHEA combined with moderate exercise and a reduced-calorie diet significantly reduces body weight and body fat compared with exercise and a reduced-calorie diet alone. In addition, 7-oxo-DHEA significantly elevated T3 levels but did not affect TSH or T4 levels, indicating that it does not adversely affect thyroid function in the short term."
The dosage for these studies was 100 mg, given twice a day.
These
promising beginnings aside, these are clearly early days for
7-keto.
More studies need to be completed to thoroughly
demonstrate 7-keto's fat burning ability.
At this point, only a few small studies have been performed, and I'd be hesitant to recommend PatentLean or 7-keto enthusiastically.
This is also a fairly expensive product. 30 caps of the product (a 15-day supply) sells online for anywhere between US$19.99 and $30 at the time of this writing. That means you're looking at a $40-$60 investment to experiment for a month.
If you think 7-Keto warrants an experiment (it may be attractive to you, especially if you cannot tolerate stimulant based supplements), you can do so much more cheaply than PatentLean. For example, 60 caps (a 1-month's supply) of the NOW brand 7-Keto sells online for under $20. If you want to experiment, this is the way to go.
