Super Fat Burning LiDa Daidaihua Slimming Capsules: Contaminated With Sibutramine
Two weight loss products from China -- Lida Daidaihua Slimming Capsules and "Super Fat Burning" have been the focus of health alerts from several governmental agencies.
Both Health Canada and the Australian government's Department of Health and Aging are warning consumers to avoid these products.
Why?
Both the Lida Daidaihua Slimming Capsules and the "Super Fat Burning" tabs have been found to contain the prescription drug sibutramine. Obviously, sibutramine should only be taken while under the supervision of your doctor.
Sibutramine (also known as Meridia) is an anti-obesity drug with a history of heart-related side effects. According to the Canadian Medical Association Journal (see MAJ, May 14, 2002; 166 (10)), these include tachycardia, hypertension and arrhythmia.
The drug was taken off the market in Italy after 50 adverse reactions (including two deaths) were reported as a result of sibutramine use. Between 1998 and 2001, the U.S. FDA received reports of nearly 400 adverse reactions, including nearly 30 deaths.
Bottom line?
If you've been taking either the Lida Daidaihua Slimming Capsules or the "Super Fat Burning" pills you should stop immediately. And if you found them perhaps a little more effective than they maybe should have been... well, now you know!
