L-Ornithine

A non-protein amino acid that’s an intermediate in the urea cycle – which is used by the body to detoxify ammonia and dispose of excess nitrogen.  Ornithine salts are sometimes added to nitric oxide (NO) boosters, as it can be used to regenerate l-arginine.

L-Histidine

An essential amino acid in children and precursor to histamine and carnosine. Histidine is sometimes included in carnosine-boosting, bodybuilding supplements, but is generally unnecessary (beta-alanine alone is sufficient, as adequate histidine is available via diet).

L-Methionine

An essential, sulfur-containing amino acid and precursor to other important metabolites such as cysteine, taurine, carnitine, various phospholipids and S-adenosyl-methionine (SAM-e).  The latter serves as a methyl donor for important biochemical reactions (such as methylation of DNA). Methionine also metabolizes to homocysteine, a risk factor for cardiovascular disease.
