SBM: “Is Gluten the New Candida?”

The big move is less than 3 weeks away! I’m spending the weekend cleaning and sorting the wheat from the chaff – that is, what to take vs. what to give away/discard. Even though we’ve only been living here for 4 years, and went through a similar process before we moved in, there’s still an astonishing amount of “chaff” to deal with.

Ugh.

Speaking of wheat, I’ll leave you with this awesome link, from Scott Gavura at Science Based Medicine. It concerns gluten – a composite protein found in wheat and related grains. Lots of alternative health/nutrition writers give the stuff a thumbs down, attributing all sorts of ills to gluten intolerance/sensitivity.

Are they right? Should you consider going gluten-free?

Gavura does a great job examining the evidence – if you’re interested in the subject, his post is worth a careful read (the comments are good, too).

Now back to the cleaning… (ugh!)

  1. It sure seems like there is a ton of conflicting info on this gluten subject. My take is if you don’t have problems, don’t worry about it.

Good luck on the move and the cleaning! We “sorted” out our stuff when we moved 12 years ago. The thing is a lot of the stuff we kept is still in boxes in the basement, that have never been opened since the move. lol

    • Exactly.

Funny you should mention the boxes… while we unpacked most of our stuff when we moved from Ohio, I’ve encountered several boxes in the shed and garage that we never unpacked. I’m torn: on the one hand, I’m tempted to just leave them as is – since they’re professionally packed and good to go. On the other hand, I’m also tempted to crack them open to see if the contents are really worth saving… after all, we haven’t missed whatever’s in them over the last 4 years, lol.

      Decisions, decisions…

  2. I had the same problem. I chose to throw out the boxes without even looking in them. I was really trying to cut down on clutter and “stuff” I never used.

I really have no regrets. I haven’t had a situation where I needed somthing I knew I had but could’nt remember where I put it.

Again, good luck on the move!
