Disgusting Healthy Food? Gross And Nutritious Food Porn?

Most of the less than appetizing “food porn” pics we get on the net are of the mega-calorie variety; bacon wrapped meatloaf stuffed with cheese and hot dogs and drizzled in butter – that sort of stuff.

But what about disgusting, healthy snacks? How come we never see pictures of those?

As an example, I’ve attached a picture of one of my favorite afternoon pick-me-ups; a can of Brunswick Canadian Sardines on a piece of Dimpflmeier Black Forest Style Rye Bread. I can only eat this on days my girlfriend is at work, since it really grosses her out – the look, the smell… everything. She can’t stand it.

But I love it. 😉

Agreed, it lacks the “pizzaz” of the bacon wrapped meatloaf stuffed with cheese and hot dogs, but it is kinda disgusting… for something so healthy anyhow.

And check out the caloric values:

Sardines: 130 calories, 7 grams fat (4 monounsaturated, 1.5 omega 3 and 6 polyunsaturated, 1.5 saturated) 0 carbs, and 17 grams protein.

Bread: 130 calories, 0 .5 grams fat, 28 grams of carbs (includes 3 grams of fiber) and 4 grams protein.

Totals: 260 calories, 21 grams protein, 28 grams carbs, 7.5 grams fat.

Not bad, huh?

So I’m putting out a call – anyone got any healthy, nutritious and particularly disgusting snacks they’d like to share? It’s time someone stands up for healthy and disgusting foods!

  1. Well Paul, you may like it, but to me it sounds and looks bad. I am not at all a sardine fan.

Elissa if you try the Larvets, I would get the cheddar cheese ones. I’m sure you can’t go wrong trying the Bacon and Cheese Crickettes.

    Good eating.lol

  2. LOL – I like sardines… and so does Number One Son, surprisingly (he was an uber-picky eater as a kid, so that now – even though he’s 21 – it still surprises me to see how broad-minded about food he’s become).

As far as disgusting snacks go, I’m still screwing up my courage to try some Larvets or Crickettes.

Then again, perhaps it would be best to start with John the Baptist Bread, lol.

Bugs are supposed to be quite nutritious and the above are likewise supposed to be quite tasty, too. 😉

  3. LOL Sardine love must be a weird thing the Ultimate Fat Burner team has in common. I would add another slice of bread, a slice of cheese and ketchup. Its good! 😀
