{"id":73,"date":"2008-04-02T00:35:50","date_gmt":"2008-04-01T22:35:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.ultimatefatburner.com\/wordpress\/diets-dont-work-right\/"},"modified":"2008-04-02T00:35:50","modified_gmt":"2008-04-01T22:35:50","slug":"diets-dont-work-right","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ultimatefatburner.com\/ufb-blog\/diets-dont-work-right\/","title":{"rendered":"Diets Don&#8217;t Work&#8230; Right?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>You&#8217;ve probably heard it a million times&#8230; &#8220;diets don&#8217;t work.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Oh really?\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Problem is, unless that statement is presented in the correct context, you&#8217;d be right to assume there&#8217;s no point making any changes to your current eating habits&#8230; especially if\u00a0the comment\u00a0comes from a respected professional. But here&#8217;s the thing: in reality&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>&#8230; just about every diet will work &#8212; to some degree. For\u00a0the short term, anyhow.\u00a0Think about it for a minute. You reduce your calories. You stop eating calorie-dense nutrient-deficient foods.\u00a0You start eating fibrous, low calorie foods, plenty of lean protein\u00a0PLUS you add in an exercise program. Even walking 20-30 minutes a day can\u00a0make a huge difference. Slowly but surely, the weight comes off. Pretty elementary, right?<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>OK, then what&#8217;s with the &#8220;diets don&#8217;t work&#8221; thing?<\/p>\n<p>Well, most &#8220;experts&#8221; correlate the word &#8220;diet&#8221; with borderline starvation, mammoth\u00a0exercise sessions in the gym, extreme feats of deprivation &#8212; all requiring massive amounts of willpower. In the end, they assume, most of us will go back to sitting on the couch with our feet up, munching Doritos and watching reruns\u00a0of &#8220;Friends.&#8221;\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>And the worst of it is&#8230;\u00a0for the most part, they are correct.<\/p>\n<p>So what the experts are really telling us is not that diets don&#8217;t work, it&#8217;s that they are not a practical long term solution. And, if you\u00a0consider the typical diet, complete with its vastly reduced caloric intake, long periods of exercise and will power, it&#8217;s not suprising.<\/p>\n<p>In my opinion,\u00a0it&#8217;s almost necessary to invent a new word for diet &#8212; one that comes without all the negative connotations.\u00a0One that doesn&#8217;t stir up visions\u00a0of you gritting your teeth through one more\u00a0set, or tossing and turning at night as you dream of raiding the fridge. \u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>One that reflects the reality of sensible\u00a0weight loss &#8212; a long term, practical solution &#8212; a lifestyle change, if you will. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Diets work in the short term. They don&#8217;t work in the long term. Only a sensible lifestyle change holds any real hope for success.
