It was banned in 2010. Phenolphthalein is a chemical with laxative effects. It&#8217;s also a potential carcinogen. It was removed from OTC laxative products in 1999.<\/p>\n<p>The most recent culprits ID&#8217;d are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.fda.gov\/Drugs\/ResourcesForYou\/Consumers\/BuyingUsingMedicineSafely\/MedicationHealthFraud\/ucm357414.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fat Zero<\/a>: contains both sibutramine and phenolphthalein.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.fda.gov\/Drugs\/ResourcesForYou\/Consumers\/BuyingUsingMedicineSafely\/MedicationHealthFraud\/ucm355797.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">XIYOUJI QINGZHI CAPSULE<\/a>: contains sibutramine.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.fda.gov\/Drugs\/ResourcesForYou\/Consumers\/BuyingUsingMedicineSafely\/MedicationHealthFraud\/ucm355964.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bethel-30<\/a>:\u00a0 contains sibutramine.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.fda.gov\/Drugs\/ResourcesForYou\/Consumers\/BuyingUsingMedicineSafely\/MedicationHealthFraud\/ucm357399.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Extreme Body Slim<\/a>: contains sibutramine.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.fda.gov\/Drugs\/ResourcesForYou\/Consumers\/BuyingUsingMedicineSafely\/MedicationHealthFraud\/ucm357423.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Paiyouji Plus<\/a>: contains sibutramine.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.fda.gov\/Drugs\/ResourcesForYou\/Consumers\/BuyingUsingMedicineSafely\/MedicationHealthFraud\/ucm357419.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fruit &amp; Plant Slimming<\/a>: contains both sibutramine and phenolphthalein.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.fda.gov\/Drugs\/ResourcesForYou\/Consumers\/BuyingUsingMedicineSafely\/MedicationHealthFraud\/ucm358769.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Strawberry Balance<\/a>: contains both sibutramine and phenolphthalein.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.fda.gov\/Drugs\/ResourcesForYou\/Consumers\/BuyingUsingMedicineSafely\/MedicationHealthFraud\/ucm358775.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Meizi Evolution<\/a>: contains sibutramine.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>And so it goes&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m not a fan of proprietary weight loss formulas in general, but if I were to buy one, I&#8217;d stick with a product marketed through reliable retailers (like the ones in the sidebar!) vs. fringe products found on eBay, Amazon and one-off product web sites.
