{"id":6114,"date":"2012-05-22T04:30:12","date_gmt":"2012-05-22T02:30:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.ultimatefatburner.com\/?p=6114"},"modified":"2015-03-09T12:53:43","modified_gmt":"2015-03-09T16:53:43","slug":"sketchers-on-the-hook-for-40-million-in-consumer-refunds","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ultimatefatburner.com\/ufb-blog\/sketchers-on-the-hook-for-40-million-in-consumer-refunds\/","title":{"rendered":"Sketchers On the Hook for $40 Million in Consumer Refunds"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ftc.gov\/news-events\/press-releases\/2012\/05\/skechers-will-pay-40-million-settle-ftc-charges-it-deceived\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ha-ha-ha-ha!<\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The Federal Trade Commission announced that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ftc.gov\/enforcement\/cases-proceedings\/102-3069\/skechers-usa-inc-dba-skechers\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Skechers USA, Inc. has agreed to pay $40 million to settle charges that the company deceived consumers<\/a> by making unfounded claims that Shape-ups would help people lose weight, and strengthen and tone their buttocks, legs and abdominal muscles.<\/p>\n<p>Besides Shape-ups, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ftc.gov\/enforcement\/cases-proceedings\/102-3069\/skechers-usa-inc-dba-skechers\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Skechers also made deceptive claims about its Resistance Runner, Toners, and Tone-ups shoes, the FTC alleged<\/a>. Consumers who bought these \u201ctoning\u201d shoes will be eligible for refunds either directly from the FTC or through a court-approved class action lawsuit, and can submit a claim here. The settlement with the FTC is part of a broader agreement, also being announced today resolving a multi-state investigation, which was led by the Tennessee and Ohio Attorneys General Offices and included attorneys general from 42 other states and the District of Columbia.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSkechers\u2019 unfounded claims went beyond stronger and more toned muscles. The company even made claims about weight loss and cardiovascular health,\u201d said David Vladeck, Director of the FTC\u2019s Bureau of Consumer Protection. \u201cThe FTC\u2019s message, for Skechers and other national advertisers, is to shape up your substantiation or tone down your claims.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The claims made by both Skechers and Reebok were outrageous &#8211;\u00a0nice to see\u00a0a little justice\u00a0(<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ultimatefatburner.com\/ufb-blog\/reebok-pay-25-million-deceptive-advertising\/\">Reebok settled with the FTC\u00a0for $25 million last year<\/a>)!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>PS &#8211; Back to &#8220;The Weight of the Nation&#8221; tomorrow.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ha-ha-ha-ha!
