No&#8230; it&#8217;s not the literary version (celebrated on June 16th\u00a0in honor of James Joyce&#8217;s &#8220;Ulysses&#8221;), rather it&#8217;s something to do with lilacs (Spokane is nicknamed &#8220;Lilac City,&#8221; so I&#8217;ve read). At any rate, &#8220;Bloomsday&#8221; features a 12K run that attracts approx. 50,000 runners.<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s too many for me &#8211; I&#8217;m passing (I hate crowds&#8230; sue me).<\/p>\n<p>But according to this MSNBC report on a recent Danish study, those runners are doing more than just having a good time.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Going for jog regularly may help you live longer, a new study from Denmark suggests.<\/p>\n<p>The findings show that women who regularly jogged lived 5.6 years longer than women who didn&#8217;t, and men who jogged lived 6.2 years longer than those who didn&#8217;t.<\/p>\n<p>Jogging for one to 2.5 hours per week at a slow or average pace seemed to deliver the greatest benefit, said study researcher Peter Schnohr, chief cardiologist of the Copenhagen City Heart Study.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We can say with certainty that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.livescience.com\/34913-stretching-running-endurance-100908.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">regular jogging<\/a> increases longevity. The good news is that you don&#8217;t actually need to do that much to reap the benefits,&#8221; Schnohr said in a statement.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>That works out to 2 &#8211; 5 half-hour sessions per week &#8211; a pretty small investment of time for such a big payoff.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Tomorrow is &#8220;Bloomsday&#8221; here in Spokane.
