{"id":6035,"date":"2012-04-27T07:25:54","date_gmt":"2012-04-27T05:25:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.ultimatefatburner.com\/?p=6035"},"modified":"2015-02-16T08:59:06","modified_gmt":"2015-02-16T13:59:06","slug":"weighty-matters-the-biggest-loser-destroys","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ultimatefatburner.com\/ufb-blog\/weighty-matters-the-biggest-loser-destroys\/","title":{"rendered":"Weighty Matters: &#8220;The Biggest Loser Destroys Participants&#8217; Metabolisms&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.weightymatters.ca\/2012\/04\/biggest-loser-destroys-participants.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dr. Yoni Freedhoff reports on a new study&#8230;<\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>In <a href=\"http:\/\/press.endocrine.org\/action\/cookieAbsent\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">an article published yesterday ahead of print<\/a>, Darcy Johannsen and friends studied the impact 7 months of Biggest Loser weight loss had on the resting and total energy expenditures of 16 participants.\u00a0 They used all the latest gadgets to do so including indirect calorimetry and doubly labeled water.\u00a0 So what happened?\u00a0 By week 6 participants had lost 13% of their body weight and by week 30, 39%.\u00a0 More importantly by week 6 participants metabolisms had slowed by 244 <strong>more calories per day than would have been expected simply as a function of their weight loss<\/strong> and by week 30, by 504 more.<\/p>\n<p>&#8230;Here&#8217;s how I&#8217;d spell it out.
