{"id":5558,"date":"2011-11-18T05:30:32","date_gmt":"2011-11-18T03:30:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.ultimatefatburner.com\/?p=5558"},"modified":"2015-02-16T09:05:03","modified_gmt":"2015-02-16T14:05:03","slug":"class-action-suit-filed-bpi-sports-dmaa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ultimatefatburner.com\/ufb-blog\/class-action-suit-filed-bpi-sports-dmaa\/","title":{"rendered":"Class Action Suit Filed Against BPI Sports Over DMAA"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.courthousenews.com\/2011\/11\/15\/41445.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">From Courthouse News Service:<\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>LOS ANGELES (CN) &#8211; A class action claims Florida-based BPI Sports&#8217; bodybuilding and dietary supplements &#8220;contain a dangerous amphetamine-like ingredient that poses a serious health risk and has potentially life-threatening side effects.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8230; &#8220;At the time plaintiffs Clint Eskenazi and Camden Brady &#8230; purchased and used the products, they were unaware the products contained a dangerous stimulant, DMAA, the use of which is banned by several athletic organizations, and sale of which is completely prohibited in certain countries.<\/p>\n<p>&#8230; &#8220;BPI failed to inform consumers that DMAA is a dangerous central nervous system stimulant which is banned by WADA, MLB, Canada and New Zealand, and that using the products can cause consumers to test positive for an illegal substance and\/or amphetamine use.<\/p>\n<p>&#8230; The plaintiffs say that DMAA has &#8220;extremely dangerous side effects.&#8221; Citing a Washington Post news report, the class claims that Don Caitlin, a &#8220;pre-eminent anti-doping scientist,&#8221; told the Post that DMAA is chemically similar to amphetamine and ephedrine, and can fatally raise the heart rate and blood pressure.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The natural products industry\u00a0has already\u00a0taken a strong stance against\u00a0DMAA.
