Y’know, there are times when I admire the sheer chutzpah some food companies display, when it comes to promoting their products. Take, for example,\u00a0this commercial for Kraft’s new “Velveeta Cheesy Skillets”:<\/p>\n

Because pre-fab, “shelf-stable” meals like Velveeta Cheesy Skillets = good, old fashioned home cooking… just like “mom” (or maybe grandma<\/em>) used to make,\u00a0doncha know. Like the man sez…<\/a><\/p>\n Adam Grablick, the brand manager for the Velveeta convenient meals division, said the new ads, and the Cheesy Skillets line itself, would resonate with consumers who wanted simplicity but had misgivings about meals that were too simple.<\/p>\n \u201cOur consumer doesn\u2019t want to be slaving away in the kitchen, but she may not feel great about just pulling something out of the freezer and putting it in the microwave,\u201d Mr. Grablick said. \u201cShe wants the meal to be hands-on, and for the meal to come from her hands and her heart.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n Nope,\u00a0nothing the least bit\u00a0“technological” about it at all.<\/p>\n And seriously…”liquid gold???” As a euphemism\u00a0for a vaguely cheese-like, extruded food substance, let’s just say\u00a0“liquid\u00a0gold” is\u00a0a\u00a0bit over-the-top (“liquid glop” seems more appropriate, IMHO). But if it helps Kraft cut into sales of “Hamburger Helper,” then I guess it’ll be justified.<\/p>\n\n
