{"id":4291,"date":"2010-12-15T03:12:45","date_gmt":"2010-12-15T01:12:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.ultimatefatburner.com\/?p=4291"},"modified":"2010-12-15T03:12:45","modified_gmt":"2010-12-15T01:12:45","slug":"what-to-drink-with-your-fondue","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ultimatefatburner.com\/ufb-blog\/what-to-drink-with-your-fondue\/","title":{"rendered":"What To Drink With Your Fondue"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I couldn&#8217;t resist this paper (and accompanying video) published in the Christmas edition of the British Medical Journal: &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bmj.com\/content\/341\/bmj.c6731.full\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Effect on gastric function and symptoms of drinking wine, black tea, or schnapps with a Swiss cheese fondue: randomised controlled crossover trial<\/a>.&#8221; It&#8217;s one of those classic, tongue-in-cheek writeups that&#8217;s intended to be humorous, yet provides a pretty good &#8220;look behind the scenes&#8221; at how scientific data is collected and assessed.<\/p>\n<p>The vid is\u00a0rather droll\u00a0&#8211; scientists are human, after all. The conclusion, not surprisingly, was that drinking alcohol with fondue significantly slowed gastric emptying, although\u00a0it was not associated with dyspeptic symptoms.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">Actually, this is semi-relevant to me, as I always make an assortment of\u00a0hors d&#8217;oeuvres for Christmas Eve (it&#8217;s tradition!), and this year, fondue is on the menu.\u00a0I won&#8217;t be drinking tea with it, either.
