{"id":4066,"date":"2010-10-19T04:40:27","date_gmt":"2010-10-19T02:40:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.ultimatefatburner.com\/?p=4066"},"modified":"2010-10-19T04:40:27","modified_gmt":"2010-10-19T02:40:27","slug":"what-does-the-obesity-society-serve-for-lunch","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ultimatefatburner.com\/ufb-blog\/what-does-the-obesity-society-serve-for-lunch\/","title":{"rendered":"What Does the Obesity Society Serve For Lunch?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Lotsa junk, according to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.weightymatters.ca\/2010\/10\/what-do-worlds-foremost-obesity-experts.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dr. Yoni Freedhoff of &#8220;Weighty Matters.&#8221;<\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>When I wandered through the lunch offerings at this years Obesity Society&#8217;s Annual Scientific Assembly in San Diego (one of the world&#8217;s largest obesity conferences), what did I find?<\/p>\n<p>Giant brownies, pretzels and full sugar soda &#8211; an interesting juxtaposition with the 2 abstracts and 2 complete symposia dedicated to sugared soda.<\/p>\n<p>Sure could make one less hopeful about the world changing to de-normalize the ubiquitous provision of junk food when even the Obesity Society feels comfortable ordering it up for its members.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>In fairness to the Obesity Society, this is a trend I&#8217;ve noticed elsewhere. While I don&#8217;t typically attend medical conferences, I do attend fitness\/nutrition industry\u00a0events.\u00a0There isn&#8217;t\u00a0much\u00a0healthy food served at these gatherings, either.\u00a0Now, I certainly don&#8217;t expect event organizers to be dishing up oat bran and organic alfalfa sprouts, but it&#8217;s passing strange to see\u00a0hot dogs, tacos, &#8220;balloon bread&#8221; sandwiches, chips, cookies and sodas served up&#8230; and eagerly lapped up, at these affairs.<\/p>\n<p>Ironic, no?
