{"id":3099,"date":"2010-01-06T04:55:32","date_gmt":"2010-01-06T02:55:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.ultimatefatburner.com\/?p=3099"},"modified":"2015-02-15T00:38:23","modified_gmt":"2015-02-15T05:38:23","slug":"airport-food-hazardous-health","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ultimatefatburner.com\/ufb-blog\/airport-food-hazardous-health\/","title":{"rendered":"Airport Food May Be Hazardous To Your Health"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>And I don&#8217;t mean from a nutritional perspective, either&#8230; <a href=\"http:\/\/usatoday30.usatoday.com\/travel\/flights\/2009-12-23-airport-food-safety_N.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">A recent\u00a0investigation by USA Today<\/a> came up with some pretty disturbing findings.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Airport restaurants packed with holiday travelers have been cited in the past year for hundreds of food safety violations, local health department reports show.<\/p>\n<p>A USA TODAY review of inspection records for nearly 800 restaurants at 10 airports found items such as tuna salad and turkey sandwiches stored at dangerously warm temperatures, raw meat contaminating ready-to-eat foods, rat droppings and kitchens lacking soap for workers to wash hands.<\/p>\n<p>Serious violations, which can increase the risk of illness, are common. On the most recent inspections available online, 42% of 57 restaurants reviewed at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport had at least one &#8220;critical&#8221; violation. So did 77% of 35 restaurants reviewed at Reagan National Airport.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Urrrrgh\u00a0&#8211; I&#8217;ve eaten at Sea-Tac on several occasions too, although only at one restaurant (Ivar&#8217;s), where\u00a0my food was cooked to order.\u00a0 But from\u00a0now on, I think I&#8217;ll just stick to protein bars, nuts, jerky (which I can\u00a0stuff in my purse)\u00a0and commercial food products packaged outside the airport (like yogurt and cottage cheese) when I fly.\u00a0 Not ideal, but going\u00a0without\u00a0meals\u00a0for a few hours beats enduring a bout of food poisoning in a crowded plane.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>And I don&#8217;t mean from a nutritional perspective, either&#8230; A recent\u00a0investigation by USA Today came up with some pretty disturbing findings.
