{"id":3069,"date":"2009-12-29T06:17:40","date_gmt":"2009-12-29T04:17:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.ultimatefatburner.com\/?p=3069"},"modified":"2015-02-15T00:38:03","modified_gmt":"2015-02-15T05:38:03","slug":"christine-is-no-jared-fogle","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ultimatefatburner.com\/ufb-blog\/christine-is-no-jared-fogle\/","title":{"rendered":"Christine is No Jared Fogle"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Methinks most people recall <a href=\"http:\/\/www.subway.com\/subwayroot\/error\/404.aspx?aspxerrorpath=\/subwayroot\/MenuNutrition\/Jared\/jaredsStory.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jared Fogle<\/a>, whose dramatic weight loss on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/the-subway-diet-02-03-2004\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the &#8220;Subway Diet&#8221;<\/a> helped boost the fortunes of the restaurant chain.\u00a0 Apparently Taco Bell is taking a leaf from the Subway book,\u00a0by highlighting another dramatic\u00a0weight loss story\u00a0in ads for its\u00a0lighter &#8220;Fresco&#8221; menu items.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/drivethrudiet.com\/christinesstory\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Meet Christine, the spokesperson for the &#8220;Drive-Thru Diet.&#8221;<\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>As you know, the Drive-Thru Diet\u00ae menu is not a weight-loss program. It\u2019s about making different choices. For me, I didn\u2019t want to cut out my fast food so I started choosing Fresco items from the Drive-Thru Diet\u00ae menu and making other sensible choices. I reduced my daily calorie and fat intake by 500 calories to 1250 calories a day, and, after two years, I ended up losing 54 pounds! These results aren\u2019t typical, but for me they were fantastic!<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><!--more-->As you can see, however, Christine&#8217;s story is\u00a0somewhat less dramatic\u00a0than Jared&#8217;s.\u00a0 Jared actually lived off Subway food, whereas Christine appears only to have included\u00a0&#8220;Fresco&#8221;\u00a0items\u00a0in an overall balanced, low-calorie diet. This reduced\u00a0emphasis on\u00a0Taco Bell&#8217;s food is\u00a0conceded by\u00a0Taco Bell itself,\u00a0which\u00a0echoes Christine&#8217;s disclaimer\u00a0that the so-called\u00a0&#8220;Drive Thru Diet&#8221; is NOT an actual weight loss program.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Drive-Thru-Diet\u00ae is not a weight-loss program. For complete nutritional information please visit TacoBell.com.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>To put it another way, Christine went on a\u00a0conventional, low-calorie\/low-fat\u00a0diet, and subbed some of the lighter Taco Bell menu items in place of other fast food fare when she needed a fix.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/latimesblogs.latimes.com\/booster_shots\/2009\/12\/taco-bell-drive-thru-fast-food-diet-mcdonalds-subway.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The LA Times Blog provides some insight<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Christine\u2019s story is a little skimpy on the details \u2013 she says in her statement and video that she reduced her total daily calorie intake by 500 calories to 1,250 calories by choosing Fresco items and \u201cmaking other sensible choices.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&#8230;I\u2019m guessing \u201cother sensible choices,\u201d such as eating carrots as a snack or holding the whipped cream on that caramel macchiato, had much more to do with Christine\u2019s weight loss than the type of tacos that she ate.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0Also? The blurb on Christine is more loaded with disclaimers than a box of cheese-covered nachos is with empty calories. The Drive-Thru Diet is \u201cnot a weight loss program,\u201d Christine says, adding, \u201cThese results aren\u2019t typical, but for me they were fantastic!\u201d And in smaller print? Fresco is \u201cnot a low calorie food.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>So Taco Bell makes no claims as to its tacos\u2019 special weight-loss capabilities. And since many major fast food chains now offer healthful options, Christine could have just as easily credited McDonald&#8217;s Southwest salad with chicken (320 calories) or Burger King\u2019s veggie burger (420 calories).
