{"id":2917,"date":"2009-11-16T03:56:08","date_gmt":"2009-11-16T01:56:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.ultimatefatburner.com\/?p=2917"},"modified":"2009-11-16T03:56:08","modified_gmt":"2009-11-16T01:56:08","slug":"alpha-male-challenge-week-8","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ultimatefatburner.com\/ufb-blog\/alpha-male-challenge-week-8\/","title":{"rendered":"The Alpha Male Challenge &#8211; Week 8"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>One&#8230; more&#8230; week&#8230; to&#8230; go&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Gonna make it to the finish line, but I can tell I&#8217;m ready for a training break.\u00a0 I know the feeling: when I come back home after a workout, and feel drained emotionally as well as physically, it&#8217;s time.\u00a0 The workouts themselves are going well, but lately, it&#8217;s been hard to reach for that extra &#8220;ooomph&#8221; needed to power out those last 1 &#8211; 2 reps in the last set(s).<\/p>\n<p>So much of lifting is mental&#8230; it takes focus and determination &#8211; and lately, I&#8217;ve had a tough time summoning both.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>At any rate, this was the first of two &#8220;Power Boost&#8221; weeks, where the majority of exercises\u00a0are focused\u00a0on developing explosive power.\u00a0 Admittedly, most of these\u00a0were kind of fun &#8211; there&#8217;s a joyful aspect to plyo work, thanks to all the hopping and jumping around.\u00a0 It\u00a0also induced some muscle fatigue, however, which made this week&#8217;s 100 rep &#8220;Punisher&#8221; sets particularly excruciating.\u00a0 There were Punisher sets for triceps (rope pushdown), back (seated machine rows), quads (walking lunges) and shoulders (dumbbell lateral raises).<\/p>\n<p>We did the shoulders and quad Punishers earlier today.\u00a0 I&#8217;m shredded.<\/p>\n<p>I will say this for the program, though\u00a0&#8211; my shoulders and upper back look harder and more chiseled than they did at the start, so &#8211; like it or not &#8211; the high volume and\u00a0overall\u00a0pounding have\u00a0done me some good.\u00a0 John has some pec and leg development going on, too.\u00a0 So &#8211; while I&#8217;ll be glad when we&#8217;re done &#8211; I&#8217;ll also be glad we went through it.\u00a0 I could see myself doing\u00a0a version of this\u00a0again, although I&#8217;d be inclined to make some exercise substitutions, as well as make it shorter (i.e., 6 weeks vs. 9).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>One&#8230; more&#8230; week&#8230; to&#8230; go&#8230; Gonna make it to the finish line, but I can tell I&#8217;m ready for a training break.\u00a0 I know the feeling: when I [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":[],"categories":[11,28],"tags":[109,1853,1812],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.ultimatefatburner.com\/ufb-blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/2917"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.ultimatefatburner.com\/ufb-blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.ultimatefatburner.com\/ufb-blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.ultimatefatburner.com\/ufb-blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.ultimatefatburner.com\/ufb-blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=2917"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.ultimatefatburner.com\/ufb-blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/2917\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.ultimatefatburner.com\/ufb-blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=2917"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.ultimatefatburner.com\/ufb-blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=2917"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.ultimatefatburner.com\/ufb-blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=2917"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
