{"id":205,"date":"2008-07-20T06:51:25","date_gmt":"2008-07-20T04:51:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.ultimatefatburner.com\/wordpress\/?p=205"},"modified":"2008-07-20T06:51:25","modified_gmt":"2008-07-20T04:51:25","slug":"the-fat-economy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ultimatefatburner.com\/ufb-blog\/the-fat-economy\/","title":{"rendered":"The Fat Economy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/wp-dyn\/content\/article\/2006\/01\/21\/AR2006012100180.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">This article from the Washington Post<\/a> is sort of\u00a0a blast from the past &#8211; it was written about two years ago.\u00a0 But little has changed in the intervening years, so I thought I&#8217;d dig it up again and post it&#8230;as it&#8217;s a\u00a0pretty fair\u00a0description\u00a0of how overweight\/obesity has influenced the economy, and vice versa.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;Put simply, there is a lot of money being made, and to be made, in feeding both oversized stomachs and feeding those enterprises selling fixes for oversized stomachs,&#8221; Weis wrote in 2005 in the Academy of Health Care Management Journal. &#8220;And both industries &#8212; those selling junk food and those selling fat cures &#8212; depend for their future on a prevalence of obesity&#8230;<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8230;For that last problem, the Fat Economy has already found ways to innovate and profit. In Lynn, Ind., there is a company called Goliath Casket that makes caskets up to 52 inches wide.
