{"id":1775,"date":"2009-05-11T05:46:42","date_gmt":"2009-05-11T03:46:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.ultimatefatburner.com\/?p=1775"},"modified":"2015-02-13T08:35:32","modified_gmt":"2015-02-13T13:35:32","slug":"a-missed-opportunity","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ultimatefatburner.com\/ufb-blog\/a-missed-opportunity\/","title":{"rendered":"A Missed Opportunity"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/articles.latimes.com\/2009\/may\/11\/health\/he-numbersher11\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">This story in the LA Times<\/a> made me want to bang my head against the keyboard a few times.\u00a0 The irony is that the author makes\u00a0two good points:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>random snacking can add up to surplus cals over the course of the day.<\/li>\n<li>if you don&#8217;t track what you&#8217;re eating, you can easily overeat without realizing it.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Problem is, the experts consulted by the author never come to grips with the subject&#8217;s food CHOICES and eating pattern&#8230;which are a big part of her snacking problem.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->As noted in the article, she starts her day eating bread crusts and dry cereal &#8211; straight carbs, with virtually no protein.\u00a0 Then she goes for a cardio workout.\u00a0 Needless to state, the high carb &#8220;breakfast&#8221; <a href=\"http:\/\/ajpendo.physiology.org\/content\/273\/4\/E768.full\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">virtually guarantees that the fat burning effects of the workout will be blunted<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Then she comes home and eats a yogurt.\u00a0 Even if it&#8217;s a reduced sugar kind, it&#8217;s not likely to supply very much protein&#8230;8 or 9 grams at best.<\/p>\n<p>With a start like this, it&#8217;s no wonder she&#8217;s constantly grazing the rest of the day &#8211; by 10:30, she&#8217;s starving.\u00a0\u00a0Even worse, her\u00a0total protein intake\u00a0looks low, and &#8211; with the exception of the\u00a0yogurt and some cheese\u00a0&#8211; is largely from incomplete sources.\u00a0 She&#8217;s almost certainly not consuming sufficient calcium or iron, either.\u00a0 Her intake of essential fatty acids is virtually nil.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, she&#8217;s\u00a0following\u00a0the usual counterproductive pattern of skimping\u00a0on food in the morning &#8211; when she&#8217;s more active &#8211;\u00a0and\u00a0eating\u00a0correspondingly more\u00a0when she&#8217;s less active.\u00a0 Between this, and the high carb, less-than-satiating foods she chooses, it&#8217;s no wonder she&#8217;s struggling with her weight.\u00a0 Even if she&#8217;s a vegetarian (which appears to be the case), she could be doing better than this.<\/p>\n<p>Yes, I know it&#8217;s about the calories&#8230;but\u00a0food choices make a world of difference in how you feel, as well as how well you tolerate the diet you&#8217;re on.\u00a0 Despite the useful info in this and <a href=\"http:\/\/articles.latimes.com\/2009\/may\/11\/health\/he-numbersintro11\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the accompanying article<\/a>, it seems to me that a real opportunity was missed.\u00a0 Pity.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This story in the LA Times made me want to bang my head against the keyboard a few times.\u00a0 The irony is that the author makes\u00a0two good points: [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":[],"categories":[14,28,29],"tags":[439,862,1035,1340,1498],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.ultimatefatburner.com\/ufb-blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/1775"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.ultimatefatburner.com\/ufb-blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.ultimatefatburner.com\/ufb-blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.ultimatefatburner.com\/ufb-blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.ultimatefatburner.com\/ufb-blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=1775"}],"version-history":[{"count":3,"href":"https:\/\/www.ultimatefatburner.com\/ufb-blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/1775\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":8456,"href":"https:\/\/www.ultimatefatburner.com\/ufb-blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/1775\/revisions\/8456"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.ultimatefatburner.com\/ufb-blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=1775"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.ultimatefatburner.com\/ufb-blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=1775"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.ultimatefatburner.com\/ufb-blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=1775"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
