{"id":144,"date":"2008-05-20T20:51:43","date_gmt":"2008-05-20T18:51:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.ultimatefatburner.com\/wordpress\/its-in-your-blood\/"},"modified":"2015-12-03T11:14:59","modified_gmt":"2015-12-03T16:14:59","slug":"its-in-your-blood","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ultimatefatburner.com\/ufb-blog\/its-in-your-blood\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8220;It&#8217;s In Your Blood&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I thought I&#8217;d call attention to\u00a0a classic article by a friend\/colleague of mine, Will Brink, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.brinkzone.com\/articles\/its-in-your-blood\/\" rel=\"noopener\">on the value of blood work for both health and physique improvement<\/a>.\u00a0 A lot of us get routine blood chemistry tests as a part of our physical exams (as well as before various medical interventions), but these still leave things out that are important for health\/fitness, such as\u00a0hormones like thyroid or testosterone.\u00a0 I know several people on the forums I moderate, who&#8217;ve really struggled with losing fat and\/or building strength due to sub-optimal\u00a0hormone\u00a0levels.\u00a0 If your hormones aren&#8217;t up to snuff, it&#8217;s like pushing a noodle.<\/p>\n<p>On the flip side, I also know people who\u00a0randomly experiment with various over-the-counter hormone-based products, like DHEA, pregnenolone, and\/or progesterone creams (not to mention various quasi-legal bodybuilding supplements).\u00a0\u00a0I\u00a0don&#8217;t have a problem with\u00a0some experimentation,\u00a0but it shouldn&#8217;t be done blindly.\u00a0 Just because these hormones\u00a0occur naturally in the body and are available without a prescription is no guarantee of absolute safety.\u00a0 Even naturopaths\u00a0don&#8217;t\u00a0advise winging it\u00a0&#8211; even for something as\u00a0(seemingly) basic as\u00a0DHEA.\u00a0 More isn&#8217;t better.<\/p>\n<p>If you&#8217;re trying to get into shape\/improve your health, you should\u00a0know\u00a0if your hormone levels are within normal limits, and\u00a0whether\u00a0you have\u00a0disease risk factors that need to be improved, such as <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.nhlbi.nih.gov\/health\/resources\/heart\/heart-cholesterol-hbc-what-html\" rel=\"noopener\">LDL cholesterol<\/a>, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/my.clevelandclinic.org\/services\/heart\/prevention\/risk-factors\/cholesterol\/triglycerides\" rel=\"noopener\">triglycerides<\/a>, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.healthcentral.com\/encyclopedia\/hc\/homocysteine-3168643\/\" rel=\"noopener\">homocysteine<\/a> or <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.medicinenet.com\/script\/main\/art.asp?articlekey=46339\" rel=\"noopener\">C-reactive protein<\/a>, for example.\u00a0 Your success &#8211;
