While there is a small amount of preliminary <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pubmed\/8726330\" target=\"blank\" rel=\"noopener\">animal-based data<\/a> to support this, to date no human evidence exists.<\/p>\n<p>Worse, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2003\/03\/04\/science\/seeking-to-fight-fat-she-lost-her-liver.html\" target=\"blank\" rel=\"noopener\">anecdotal reports<\/a> indicate usnic acid may well be highly toxic to the liver. Animal studies (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pubmed\/15013205\" target=\"blank\" rel=\"noopener\">J Ethnopharm 2004;90:381-7<\/a>) already demonstrate usnic acid&#8217;s toxic effect.<\/p>\n<p>One study (see <a href=\"http:\/\/annals.org\/article.aspx?articleid=715233\" target=\"blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ann Intern Med. 2002 Apr 16;136(8):590-5<\/a>) investigated the possible link between the usnic-acid-based fat burner called LipoKinetix and the hepatoxicity displayed by 7 of its users. It concluded&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff\">&#8220;The use of LipoKinetix may be associated with hepatoxicity.
