{"id":240,"date":"2009-03-15T08:32:40","date_gmt":"2009-03-15T15:32:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/glossary.ultimatefatburner.com\/?p=240"},"modified":"2015-02-16T12:31:01","modified_gmt":"2015-02-16T17:31:01","slug":"arachidonic-acid","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ultimatefatburner.com\/glossary\/arachidonic-acid\/","title":{"rendered":"Arachidonic Acid"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>An omega-6 fatty acid formed in the body from linoleic acid\u2014an essential fatty acid found in nuts, seeds and vegetable oils (pre-formed arachidonic acid is also found in food sources such as red meat, eggs and poultry).\u00a0 Like the omega-3 metabolites <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ultimatefatburner.com\/glossary\/eicosapentaenoic-acid-epa\/\" target=\"_blank\">EPA<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ultimatefatburner.com\/glossary\/docosahexaenoic-acid-dha\/\" target=\"_blank\">DHA<\/a>, arachidonic acid (AA)\u00a0is incorporated into cell membrane phospholipids. When released,\u00a0it can form a number of biologically active metabolites known collectively as &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.rpi.edu\/dept\/bcbp\/molbiochem\/MBWeb\/mb2\/part1\/prostag.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">eicosanoids<\/a>.&#8221; In general, the omega-3-based eicosanoids tend to be anti-inflammatory, while the omega-6 based eicosanoids are pro-inflammatory.
