Update: NEW Fat-Bustin' eBook Now Being Edited
Well, now that most of the writing for the brand new
version
of The Ultimate Fat Burning Diet Primer is out of the way,
it's time for the slow and somewhat arduous process of
editing.
I've been progressing through the book on a page-by-page
basis, making sure everything is ready for "prime time".
After I've completed this task, the next step will be to
forward the new publication to my editor, before finally
sending it out to be professionally formatted.
At this stage in the game (and with things slowing
down in
the summer months), I'm hoping we'll be good for a launch
date on Labour day -- that's if I can stay out of the sun,
and inside glued to the computer!
Regardless, the new publication will be something
SPECIAL
indeed!

Fat-Bustin' Summer Schedule
Let's face it...
Summer is THE time for relaxing. Unless there's no
choice,
most of us up here in the northern hemisphere would rather
be outside enjoying our brief respite from the winter
weather...
As far away from the computer as possible.
So the summer newsletters will be especially brief
for that
very reason. After all, even if you don't wish to spend the
summer glued to your computer monitor, it's still as
important as ever to stay fit and healthy!
So, from now until Labour day (a Canadian holiday
falling on
the first Monday in September), the newsletters will be
short, sweet, and to the point!

Much Ado About Protein!
You've probably heard that increasing your protein
intake
can have a positive effect on the success of any weight loss
or fitness program. Here's why...
1) Numerous studies show that protein helps stave off
hunger, aids in weight loss, and helps build and/or protect
lean body mass (muscle).
2) The dangers of higher protein intake as touted
by the
advocates of the high-carbohydrate mainstream diet are an
illusion. There is NO documented proof that indicates
higher levels of protein intake leads to kidney malfunction
in healthy individuals. In fact, new evidence indicates
that increasing protein consumption has no adverse effects
on kidney function (Source: International Journal of Obesity
and Related Metabolic Disorders, 23(11):1170-7., 1999).
-----SIDEBAR-----
It is true, however, that processing all that
extra protein does require plenty of water.
Of course, that's not an issue with you...
You are already drinking 8-10 10 ounce
glasses of water a day, right? ;-)
-----SIDEBAR-----
3) Any diet that limits protein intake has to make
up the
bulk of daily caloric values in either fat calories or
carbohydrates. Since fat has been villainized by the
dieting community, most of the remaining calories come from
carbohydrates. This leads to a diet that OVERstimulates
insulin, raises blood sugar levels, and puts the body into
fat storing mode. Incidentally, this is the same diet that
has been prescribed routinely for over 2 decades now, but
has failed to alleviate the obesity crisis.
4) Other recent studies have indicated that high-protein
meals actually raise post-meal thermogenisis (fat burning)
and resting energy expenditure (Source: Journal of American
College of Nutrition, 21(1):55-61, 2002
5) Research shows that dieters who obtain a larger
percentage of their calories from protein (as opposed to
those obtaining a greater percentage from carbs), tend to
lose more fat, and less lean muscle mass (Source: Metabolism
43 (12):1481-7., 1994)

OK, so it's important to "up" your protein
intake. But
unless you supplement extensively with high quality protein
supplements and Meal Replacements, youre going to have
problems eating enough protein in a day. After all, there
are just so many chicken breasts one can tolerate in a day!
Some days, I have to work hard to consume my minimum of 1
gram protein/pound of bodyweight daily.
Protein supplements usually come in one of three formats...
i) As meal replacements (like Myoplex, Cytoplex, and
Labrada's Lean Body) which contain 30-50 grams of protein
per serving, plus a significant number of carbs and handful
of fat calories.
ii) As "pure" protein powders like Designer
Whey protein.
Comprised mostly of protein with very little added carbs and
fats, these products aren't as tasty as meal replacements.
However, they are very useful to have around to increase the
protein intake of meals. For instance, a scoop added to
your morning oatmeal "ups" the protein content
significantly.
iii) As protein bars like MuscleTech's NitroTech.
Personally, I use protein supplements as the foundation
of
my fitness and weight loss program. And generally, I use
meal replacements (like EAS' Myoplex) and "pure" protein
powders like Designer Whey. I use protein bars only
occasionally -- like when I happen to be travelling.
If you're not already doing so, I'd recommend you increase
your protein consumption.
I've written extensively about the meal replacements
Myoplex, Cytoplex, and Lean Body, as well as the best
protein bars for the money.

of meal
replacements here...

**SPECIAL** Guest Article by Warren J. Matthews, Editor
of
The XTEND-YOUR-LIFE Newsletter
I'll be honest -- I subscribe to dozens of newsletters,
and
very few of them hold my interest for long. Most are short
on content and long on ads. There are, of course, a couple
of exceptions to this general rule. I've previously
introduced you to one of my personal favorites...
Stephen Holt's superb "Fit For Function"...
http://www.stephenholtfitness.com/subscribe.htm
And today I'm going to introduce you to The XTEND-YOUR-LIFE
Newsletter written by Warren J. Matthews. It is another of
the few high-quality newsletters I've found that delivers
valuable, helpful information in each and every issue.
Whether you are trying to lose a bit of weight, lower
your
cholesterol naturally, or just live a longer, happier, and
healthier life...
I highly recommend it.
Read the article below, and if you have a moment,
use the link
provided to subscribe to the XTEND-YOUR-LIFE Newsletter for
yourself. You won't regret it!
OK, with no further interruptions, I'll turn you over
to
Warren, who addresses an issue that is near and dear to all
of our hearts...
Getting burned by unscrupulous marketers pushing useless
and overpriced "health" products on the Net.
Enjoy!

Supplements...Sometimes Over Hyped, Overpriced and
downright
Dishonest!
I am sure that you, like most people receive offers almost
every day from someone selling:
* Weight loss supplements
* HGH
* Natural libido or 'sex' supplements.
Because of the number of emails that I get from subscribers
who have fallen prey to some of these offers I thought it
was now time to give a few hints to our subscribers so they
don't fall 'victim' to some of these scams.
I will deal with each group separately so you will
be better
equipped to assess and deal with these promotions should
they stimulate your interest. But first a few general
'rules'.
--------------------------------------------------------------
General 'Due diligence' Rules:
--------------------------------------------------------------
1. If you receive the offer via spam, delete it! No
reputable Company with quality products will ever market
their products by spamming.
2. If the promoter does not display physical addresses,
telephone and fax numbers, plus a toll free number and email
addresses there is a high probability that they will be nigh
on impossible to contact if you have a problem.
3. Be wary of websites that can only be contacted
via a form
and have no email address or, the email address is different
to their domain name. For example a website www.xyz.com
should have corresponding email addresses such as
joe@xyz.com If an email address is a free 'throw away' one
give it an extra wide berth.
o General 'Product' Rules:
1. NEVER buy any supplement that does not list ALL
the
ingredients in each product, INCLUDING the amount of each
ingredient in each tablet or capsule.
2. If a claim is made that it contains 'secret' ingredients,
scrap it... there are no such things!
3. If a promoter claims that their product is patented...
move on. You cannot patent natural ingredients. Besides,
competent commercial businesses do not attempt to patent
their natural formulas. As an example, our Xtend-Life Total
Balance which is arguably the most sophisticated and
advanced general dietary supplement in the world is not
patented! The reason...we would have to divulge in detail
our total manufacturing methodology which would then become
public knowledge. A few minor changes and it's everybody's!
This is the difference between nutraceuticals which are
manufactured using natural ingredients and pharmaceuticals
which are synthesized and easy to patent.
4. Be wary of 'clinical studies and trials'. Unless
they
are referenced or documented on the website they only exist
in the mind of the marketer. If you are seriously
interested in a product and they say there is supporting
'clinical studies' and you can find no reference to them on
the website... email them and ask for details.
5. Use your instinct. If the claims don't feel right...
move on... or telephone them to ask questions. You can
always tell on the phone if someone at the other end knows
what they are talking about or if they are just an order
taking service.
6. When a Company tries to load you up with 3 - 6
months
supply of product this is a general sign that they know that
their product does not work and you are unlikely to buy
again or, their customer service is so poor or non existent!

Today's Quote:
"Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence.
Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful
people with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is
almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of
educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are
omnipotent. The slogan 'press on' has solved and always will
solve the problems of the human race."
