The Importance Of Evening Carb-Cutting
Most of us in North America have grown up accustomed
to
having the largest meal of the day in the evening. I myself
was brought up with the large traditional meat, veggie and
starch (potato, rice, etc, etc.) meal occurring in the
evening.
Unfortunately, from a dieting point of view, it makes
little
sense to eat the largest meal of the day in the evening.
Why?
Most importantly, the body's metabolic rate is at
its lowest
point of the day. Additionally, at this point most of us are
settling down for the day -- we don't need extra fuel for
extensive calorie-burning activities. So a large percentage
of what we eat in that last meal ends up getting deposited
on the hips, thighs, stomach, and buns.
But old habits die hard. And...
Often these days, it's only in the evening that we
have the
time to prepare a decent meal. Plus, there's something
somewhat comforting about that last hot meal of the day.
So the tradition continues.
However, there IS a step you can take to implement
serious
damage control in evening meals.
o Of critical importance is cutting back on "starchy"
carbohydrates (like rice, potatoes, pasta).
Nothing elevates blood sugar levels, packs on the
fat, and
contributes to the "turkey dinner blues" like excess carbs
in the evening.
-----SIDEBAR-----
"Turkey dinner blues" is simply the term I
use to refer to that overwhelming feeling of
total lethargy one gets after finishing a
huge (or carbohydrate rich) meal. You know
the feeling -- you can barely keep your eyes
open long enough to make it to the couch.
So if you hope to accomplish anything
meaningful in your evening hours, carb
cutting becomes even more important. It's
almost impossible to wrench yourself off the
couch when you're in the grasp of the
"turkey dinner blues".
-----SIDEBAR-----
Of course, the key is to eliminate carbs WITHOUT totally
eliminating the joy of dinner. Here's what I've been doing
lately...
Because I often don't get home to eat dinner until
between
7:30 and 8:30 in the evening, and because I do much of my
work on the Ultimatefatburner.com site at night, I have to
stay alert. I've tried severely cutting back on my starchy
carbs, but to no avail...
No matter how few I eat, they always hit me like a
rock.
Where's that couch? Zzzzzz...
So for the last couple of weeks I've been putting
the best
Christmas present ever through its paces.
"What is it?", I hear you asking.
It's a <insert fanfare of trumpets and drum roll>...
Vegetable steamer.
Big deal, right?
Actually, it's the greatest invention since sliced
bread,
believe it or not. It makes perfect, crispy, and delicious
vegetables each and every time. So it's perfect for stir-fry.
And stir-fry has been the perfect answer for enjoying
a
delicious evening meal, without the "turkey dinner blues"
that usually follow.
Try it for yourself. If you don't have a vegetable
steamer,
pick one up, they are pretty reasonable in price (around
CAD$32.00 at my local Wal-Mart).
To prepare your evening meal simply start chopping
vegetables into 1 inch square pieces. I use onions, green
and red peppers, broccoli, celery, cauliflower, water
chestnuts -- just throw in your favorites. Fill the
canister about 3/4 full.
For protein use lean beef (eye of round and top round
are
the leanest cuts of beef, containing only 1.5 grams of
saturated fat per 3 ounce serving), chicken or turkey (if
you wish to add some tofu that's OK too). A pound of meat is
usually enough to feed three adults with a bit left over.
I usually cook the chicken (or beef) in a frying pan
with a
mixture of minced ginger, soya sauce, a teaspoon of brown
sugar and/or teriyaki sauce. Black bean sauce works well
too.
When the vegetables and the chicken are done, mix
together
in a large bowl. Add a little extra soya or teriyaki sauce to
taste. You've got a great tasting, delicious Chinese style
stir fry that will fill you up without putting extra weight
on your waist!
You'll notice that I have completely eliminated a
starchy
carb from this last meal. Rice would be perfect, I agree,
but then we'd be back where we started...
At square one!
So what are you waiting for?
Get steaming! ;-)

The Ultimate Fat Burner? Met-Rx's Thermicore!
Although Thermicore is an ephedrine based product, it is a
long-time favorite of mine.
The main reason why?
It delivers a relatively moderate ephedrine dose (along
with
a couple of other goodies) in a timed-release formulation
that's quite mild and easy to tolerate.
Thermicore also receives a "Recommended"
rating from the
independent body of scientists who review products at
SupplementWatch.com.

The Ultimate Scam? Plant Macerat
Unbelievable. I can't believe that...
a) Such crap actually exists on the market
And...
b) There are people so unscrupulous as to willingly
jeopardize your health and well-being for the sake of a few
bucks.
You won't find Plant Macerat in any stores -- it's
sold
through advertisements found in a large variety of
publications. If you see it...
Beware!
