New Additions To Fat-Bustin' eZine

To increase the value of Ultimatefatburner's Fat-Bustin'
eZine to you, my subscribers, I've decided to include a
"Noteworthy Diet Links" section. This section will provide
links to interesting weight loss/supplement related articles
on well-known and respected internet resource sites.

You can expect to see these links in most issues.

Second, I'm considering alternating the inspirational quote
with the "Joke Of The Day". Laughter, as they say, is
always the best medicine. And since losing weight can
sometimes be a depressing business, I figured the occasional
laugh would do us all some good! ;-)

Calorie Counting... A NECESSARY Evil!

I must have read half a dozen different articles in the last
week, all attributing failed weight loss to one critical
thing.

Any guesses as to what it was?

Nope. Nice try though! ;-)

It's the fact that many people don't have much of an idea
of the caloric value of the foods they are eating. Let's
face it -- fundamentally, weight loss is pretty simple...

Take in fewer calories than you burn, right?

You can be as dedicated and motivated as you like, but you
ignore this basic rule at your peril. Pretty obvious,
agreed? The problem is many seemingly innocent foods can
end up sneaking up on you calorie-wise. Miscalculate a
couple of meals by a hundred calories or so and...

Whammo!

Say good-bye to that calorie deficit so necessary for
successful weight loss.

This really hit a chord with me this week. I was driving
home early last week when I realized I had no meal
pre-cooked for the evening...

-----SIDEBAR-----
In an earlier issue of the Fat-Bustin' eZine
I discussed the importance of preparing meals
in advance so you don't fall into the trap of
picking up something "easy and quick" on a
regular basis. It's much easier to eat
properly this way.

Too bad I didn't follow my own advice last
week. :-(

-----SIDEBAR-----

... So I stopped at the local grocery store. After a few
minutes of wandering about listlessly, I realized I didn't
feel much like cooking. So, in a moment of weakness, I
grabbed a pizza (one of the ones you "can't tell from
take out". Yeah, right!).

Anyhow, when I got it home and out of the box it sure didn't
look like much. A few sorry pieces of pepperoni, 3
mushrooms, two slices of green pepper, and a smattering of
cheese. So I opened the fridge and "supplemented" the
toppings with more green peppers, onions, cheese, more
mushrooms, and a bit of pepperoni I had left in the freezer.

That's better... that's a pizza! Whoo-hoo!

Calories didn't even occur to me until I was munching
happily away on my second slice (the second quarter -- hey,
what can I say, it was small!). And I'll be honest... I was
pretty certain I had exceeded my single meal caloric limit
of 500 calories (only on weight training days). I just
wasn't prepared for HOW much.

So I grabbed up the pizza box out of the recycling bin to
have a look. Hmm, let's see...

What the...????

Oh-oh!

Says here 1/6 of a pizza is 358 calories. Hmm... and I've
just eaten 3/6 of the pizza, PLUS I added a ton of toppings.
So let's just say 1,400 + calories.

Nice. 1,400 calories at one sitting.

The darndest thing is... I'm usually pretty astute about
keeping track of basic calorie counts. The pizza just
didn't look like anything that could deliver that many
calories.

Whoops.

The moral here is a simple one... check calorie counts, and
keep track of what you're eating.

You don't have to painstakingly measure everything you eat,
but you must have a pretty close ball-park figure. It
doesn't take much to derail your dieting efforts.

For example, suppose you're late for work, and decide to
stop by McDonalds for breakfast on the way. That Western
Omelette Breakfast bagel may sound healthy, but it will hit
you up for 680 calories.

Stopping into Starbucks for a White Chocolate Mocha? 420
calories.

Poutine is a French-Canadian dish (french fries with cheese
curds and gravy) that is gaining popularity world-wide.
Harvey's carries it as a "side-dish"... providing 730
calories.

For my Canadian subscribers... a typical donut at Tim
Hortons delivers 280-375 calories.

Bottom line?

It all adds up. And quickly.

So check your labels.

Oh yes... and like a good boy/girl scout...

Be prepared. Cook healthy meals in advance!

Carb-Blockers... Another Weight Loss Dud?

The exciting news is this...

Preliminary tests have shown that an exciting new compound
seems to inhibit the body's ability to convert carbohydrates

If you've read through my site, you'll know I'm a pretty big
fan of CLA, or conjugated linoleic acid. CLA is a
non-essential fatty acid that shows real promise as a weight
loss aid. Although human-based testing is in its infancy,
CLA appears to be a viable weight loss aid...
