Happy Thanksgiving!

Let me be the first to wish a safe and happy Thanksgiving to
all of our American subscribers. We Canadians had our
Thanksgiving a month ago or so, BUT...

We're always looking for excuses to eat Turkey and stuffing,
and watch NFL football! ;-)

Even if you're in part of the world that is not celebrating
Thanksgiving this week, most of us are starting down the
slippery slope to the holiday season. Over the next 6-7
weeks it's going to become increasingly difficult to avoid
temptation, and make the correct eating choices.

However, those of you who have been receiving this
publication for some time know how I feel about cheat meals,
and occasional "feeding-frenzies." ;-)

There's a ton of great stuff!

-----SIDEBAR-----

In short, they are an absolute essential part of a
successful weight loss program. The minimal damage you'll
do to yourself by enjoying an extravagant meal once in a
while goes a long way to keeping you motivated when you
*are* sticking to your diet.

Successful dieting should reflect a hearty dose of reality,
which includes the occasional reward. Otherwise, it's
ultimately doomed to fail. This is especially true during
the holiday season. When surrounded by family, friends, and
loved ones, dieting is very likely the last thing on your
mind. And you can bet it's the last thing on the mind of
your friends and family. Most of them are looking forward
to a gigantic meal with all the trimmings. After all, a
good meal is a big part of what celebrating with friends
should be!

And you're not going to win any popularity awards serving
low-fat, calorie-reduced recipes -- because no matter what
anybody says...

They just don't taste as good.

OK, so I'm of two minds on this...

1) First...

Plan your cheat meal for this Thanksgiving. Forget about
cutting back. Enjoy food, friends, and family. Life is
short, right?

Just be sure to return to your regular routine the following
day. The damage you've done is minimal, and you haven't
missed anything.

--

o Second, enjoy the meal, but implement damage control...

What do I mean by this? Simply this...

Taking a few extra steps will reduce any diet-damaging
effects an extravagant meal may have -- without annoying
your guests.

Here's how to do it...

i) The easiest way to eliminate the damage is to start dinner
with an appetizer -- a soup or salad are great options when you
want to fill up *without* calories. Then, when you start
the main course, you're already half full.

ii) Eliminate "empty calories" (foods that provide plenty of
calories, but no nutritional value). Instead of pop or fruit
punch, serve chilled sparkling water. Be sure to drink lots
yourself -- it'll fill you up, and you'll eat less.

iii) It's difficult to eat less when there are many dishes
to sample. For example, on the table at our recent family
Thanksgiving meal there was...

Turkey
stuffing
squash
sweet potato
sweet peas and green beans
coleslaw
parsnips
pecan pie
chocolate pie
pumpkin pie

Even with only a small serving of each dish, my plate was
heaping by the time I had piled everything on. By serving
only the "family favorites," life is much easier for
everyone.

iv) For a day or two before the big feast, cut back on your
carbohydrate intake, and be sure to exercise the day before
the big event, if not that very morning.

Why?

Anytime you eat, the food you consume is broken down and
released into the body for use as energy. When your caloric
intake exceeds your caloric requirements you gain weight,
right?

Most of the time. But the body first checks to see if
its available storage spots are full before it
deposits those extra calories onto your waist line. Those
storage spots are the liver and muscle cells. The body
will make sure these are packed full of glycogen (derived
from glucose, the end result of carbohydrate metabolism),
before it lays down more fat.

By reducing carb intake significantly for a few days, and
exercising before the big event, you can reduce the amount
of glycogen stored in the body. You'll also increase your
metabolism -- which means you'll burn additional calories at
rest!

Whoo-hoo!

So those extra calories consumed on Thanksgiving day will
be much less likely to make it to your waist.

v) As long as it's not disrespectful, chat up a storm during
the meal. Seriously. It takes up to 20 minutes for the
brain to get that "I'm full!" message. If you eat slower
and chat longer you'll be full sooner.

--

OK, now that you're prepared to make the best of Thanksgiving...

Enjoy your Holiday!

Stacker 2 -- A Popular Fat Burner

Quite a bit of interest in this supplement, due to a fairly
extensive advertising campaign. As far as I'm concerned,
that warrants a review. ;-) Not a bad product overall, but
there are a few caveats. You can read the article in its
