Preparing For Success!
Last issue I discussed how helpful it can be to keep
track
of your progress in a daily journal.
-----SIDEBAR-----

new to Ultimatefatburner's Fat-Bustin' eZine,

-----SIDEBAR-----
When I review my own entries, and make note of the
successes
and the failures, there is one thing I can't help but
notice...
If I start each week with all my meals planned and
pre-prepared, I tend to have a pretty successful week. If,
on the other hand, I don't get an opportunity to prepare the
week's meals in advance, disaster often befalls me.
The truth is simple...
Bad eating choices are not as much about a "lack
of
willpower" as some experts would have us think. It's as
much about time (or the lack of it), and convenience. When
I start each week with my meals cooked in advance, it
doesn't matter if I come home too tired to be bothered to
cook.
I just chuck my prepared chicken and veggies onto
a plate,
and into the microwave it goes. Voila! 3 minutes later
I've got a nutritious dinner.
And when I don't get a chance to pre-cook nutritious
meals?
If I'm returning home much too tired and burned out
to cook,
I'm more likely to make a detour into the local fast food
joint.
So that few hours on Sunday that I typically devote
to
preparing the following week's meals is pivotal to the
success of my week.
Personally, I don't do anything complicated. Typically,
I
only prepare the main dish (whether it be chicken, lean
beef, fish or whatever). Everything and anything else can
be cooked quickly in the microwave with very little effort.
Depending on your own situation, you may only have
to
prepare a few meals in advance. But whatever you do, take
some time on the weekend (or whenever you have some free
time) and plan for those days when you know you'll be tired
or strapped for time.
Like a good boy or girl scout...
It pays to be prepared!

Side-Stepping Halloween Dieting Disasters
If you've got children gearing up for trick or treating, or
you're expecting truckloads of ghouls and ghosts next week,
you've probably made the obligatory purchase of a couple of
bushels of nutritionally-deficient goodies.
And these are deceptively dangerous goodies.
Witness, if you will, the tiny chocolate bar -- the
most
dangerous goody of them all. You know the ones I mean...
tiny Aero bars, tiny Crispy Crunch bars, tiny Reese Peanut
Butter Cups... the list goes on and on.
Because they are so small it's easy to fall into the
"I'll
just have one" trap. The other day, for example, while
visiting my Mom, I found myself getting decidedly hungry.
I headed for the cupboard for a can of tuna. The cupboard
door opened, and BEHOLD!...
Bags of tiny chocolate bars!
Oops.
Well, I'm already having a can of tuna, it wouldn't
be
harmful to have just one of these tiny Mars bars as a
treat, would it?
Munch.
Wow! That was great -- much better than the tuna.
Geez...
since it was such a small treat it wouldn't hurt to have one
of these tiny Oh Henry bars as well -- would it?
Munch.
Well... now that I've already had two, I might as
well have
another, right?
Anyhow, you get the idea. "Just one" turned
out to be "just
on of each", which turned into WAY too many. Sure, each bar
is small and doesn't contain a ton of calories, but they
add up mighty fast should you fall into the same trap I did.
(As penance, I did 45 minutes on the stationary bike!).
So what's the best way to avoid temptation?
o Put off purchasing Halloween candy until the last
possible
moment. And try to give it *all* away Halloween night.
o Store Halloween goodies out of sight, and in an
unusual
place. In the example illustrated above, I only ate the
bars because I found them. For me, out of sight is out of
mind. If you're not staring at these little tempting goodies
every time you open a cupboard, it will be much easier to
resist their call! ;-)
o Don't buy *your* favorite treats -- buy treats that
you're
less likely to fall victim to!
Good luck, and...
Happy Halloween!
