The
Fast Weight Loss Scam Explained!
Fast
weight loss? Easy weight loss? Is such a thing possible? Let's face
it, from the moment you wake up, to the moment you fall asleep,
you're bombarded by ads touting the ease and convenience of fast
weight loss solutions - on TV, on the radio, and on the Internet.
Fast weight loss, effortless dieting, blah, blah, blah. Inquiring
minds want to know... what's the catch?
The
fast weight loss scam is probably the most common scam in the entire
dieting industry. Yet many products and supplements claim just that,
and most guarantee their results. OK... but if a company can make
such a guarantee (like 10 pounds in 10 days), how can it possibly
be a scam?
Good
question! ;-)
Now
here's the interesting part...
It's
very easy to lose ten pounds of weight in ten days.
No kidding! But did you notice how the "weight" in the
last sentence is underlined? Here's what I'm getting at... it's
very easy to guarantee that within a week or ten days, you'll step
on the bathroom scale, and the needle will have moved to the left
significantly. Great, right?
Wrong.
All you've lost is water weight. Your body fat percentage isn't
actually any lower. In other words, you weigh less, but you're no
less fat. The truth is simple... a gram of fat contains 9 calories.
A pound of fat (454 grams), contains well over 3,500 calories. Ten
pounds of fat contains well over 35,000 calories. For fat to disappear,
it has to be burnt as energy. To put things in a slightly different
perspective, 35,000 calories represents as much as 3 weeks
of total caloric intake for a 150-lb. individual. To suggest
that anyone could lose 10 pounds of fat in 10 days is completely
ludicrous.
Earlier
I said it was easy to lose up to 10 lbs very quickly. So how's it
done exactly? The most popular methods revolve around one of three
ways...
1)
Severely restricting carbohydrate intake. Popular carb restricting
diets like the Dr
Atkins' Diet, and the Protein
Power diet have a strong diuretic effect. In other words, they
help drive water from the body. Reduce carbohydrate intake to under
30 grams daily for ten days, and I'll guarantee you'll weigh ten
pounds less!
2)
Utilizing powerful herbal diuretics. Using powerful natural and
herbal based diuretics (so companies can use the "all-natural"
advertising ploy), achieves exactly the same effect as a carbohydrate
restricting diet... without the diet. Herbs used in such compilations
include Uva Ursi, Kola Nut, Yerba Mate, Dandelion (sometimes labeled
taraxacum), horsetail, and many others.
3)
By using a combination of both 1 and 2.
As
you can see, this is an out and out scam, based on "advertising
doublespeak" and customer desperation. Fact is, there is no
easy way to lose weight, despite the fact that we'd love such a
simple solution.
